Learn Late Cornish Bit by Bit 10 (Some numbers 1)

Some numbers 1

We used üdn for one item, including mutation of some feminine nouns, e.g.

üdn den                                            one man
üdn venyn (f)                                    one woman
üdn kei                                              one dog
üdn gath (f)                                       one cat

Numbers 5 and above do not cause mutation. (We will deal with 2, 3 and 4 later.) They are used with singular nouns (If you have a number you know you have more than one!)

pemp den                                         5 man
whegh[1] benyn                               6 woman
seyth kei                                          7 dog
eth cath                                            8 cat
naw aval                                           9 apple
deg gwedhen                                  10 tree

[1] Silent <gh>. By Late Cornish the <gh> ending had reduced to <h>, so RLC <wheh>, similarly <flogh> became <floh>.
